Birdswood is the historical narrowboat belonging to The Friends of Cromford Canal. The boat and our gift shop are run entirely by our dedicated team of volunteers. Birdswood runs scheduled trips throughout the year, open to members of the public. Our exclusive charters make a personal venue for your private function. Come and enjoy a peaceful journey along the Cromford Canal and get up close to the fabulous wildlife and take in the amazing scenery.
Derbyshire Canal Boat Tuition is a friendly family run business operating between Shardlow, Swarkestone Lock and Willington, Derbyshire, that is fully qualified and insured to run the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) inland waterways Helmsman and Crew courses. The RYA is the recognised governing body for the boating leisure industry and a leading representative for the Inland waterways.

Langley Mill Boatyard is a traditional working yard based in the East Midlands at the junction of the Erewash, Cromford, and Nottingham canals. The yard has been established for over 40 years and is now under new ownership. The Boat Safety Scheme, or BSS, is a public safety initiative owned equally by the Canal & River Trust and the Environment Agency. Its purpose is to help minimise the risk of boat fires, explosions, or pollution harming visitors to the inland waterways, the waterways' workforce and any other users.
Canal Route Planner is an interactive guide to the inland waterways of Europe, it helps you plan your journey or holiday, calculates the length (distance, number of locks, time taken etc) of your trip and shows gazetteer information on places along the way (pubs, shops etc). It has an extensive collection of waterway photographs.
We are situated on the River Trent at Sawley Cut close to the junctions of the Trent with the River Soar, the Erewash Canal, and the Trent-&-Mersey Canal and so are ideally placed for journeys North, South, East, and West. We offer friendly, secure moorings at a reasonable price.
The Historic Narrow Boat Club was formed in 1966 and is a not-for-profit club dedicated to preserving the working heritage of UK canals, from the boats themselves to details of the waterways on which they travel. We are passionate about working boats, traditional skills, the built heritage, and the practices and courtesies of the working boat people.

The Trent and Mersey Canal Society is one of a number of specialist charities, whose members share a common interest or concern for their local waterway, or are inspired by the beauty and tranquillity of the waterway and its surrounds. In our case we are dedicated and committed to the Trent and Mersey Canal - one of Britain's oldest and best loved canals.
Beeston Canalside Heritage Centre
The Beeston Cut is a small but important link between the Nottingham Canal and the River Trent, with a rich history and place in the hearts of the local community, since work began in 1794.
The Erewash Museum is a museum in the town of Ilkeston, Erewash, in Derbyshire, England. The building that houses the museum is named the Dalby House after one of the families who inhabited it and has served as a school and a private dwelling.

The Heanor and District Local History Society was formed in 1968, and currently has a membership of around 140.
Long Eaton Natural History Society
The Long Eaton Natural History Society (LENS Wildlife Group) was founded in 1977 and offers a warm welcome to all who are interested in their natural surroundings.
Visit Shardlow and its Heritage Centre for a fascinating insight into this 18th-century canal transhipment port. Shardlow has a unique place in the history of the country. The 18th-century canal port, with all its associated wharves and warehouses, can still clearly be seen. Originally a river port, Shardlow developed greatly with the opening of the Trent and Mersey Canal in 1770.

The Long Eaton Town Deal Investment Plan sets out a vision for Long Eaton and a schedule of work agreed by the Town Board members, reflecting the needs of local businesses and organisations as well as local residents. The Town Board would like to improve the connectivity around areas of the town. These include the bridge at Broad Street which connects West Park to the town centre. Currently the Broad Street Bridge is narrow and the ramps are steep. More importantly it doesn’t connect with the canal towpath. There is also an opportunity to build a new multi-purpose pedestrian and cycle bridge over the canal at Britannia Road. This would provide an alternate route along the canal for residents north of Derby Road. It would also offer a direct route towards the site of the proposed HS2 Hub Station at Toton.

One of only two remaining wrought-iron viaducts in England, Bennerley Viaduct is a Grade II* listed structure dating from 1877 and spanning the Erewash Valley for 440 metres (approximately 1/4 mile) between Cotmanhay in Derbyshire and Awsworth in Nottinghamshire. The viaduct deck is some 18 metres (60 feet) above the River Erewash. The Friends of Bennerley Viaduct are dedicated to restoring, conserving, and celebrating this impressive structure
